SANT SADURNÍ D'ANOIA

Sant Sadurní is closely related to Cava;so, its economy is conditioned to the Cava industry and to the auxiliary industry generated from Cava. Sant Sadurní is the land of vineyards and its almost eighty firms producing  the 90 per cent of the total cava production in Spain makes Sant Sadurní, without any doubt, to be the capital of Cava. The other 10 per cent is also mainly elaborated in the country region.

 

But, to be THE CAPITAL OF CAVA has not been easy way. Since the first bottle of champagne elaborated in 1872 by Mr. Josep Raventós Codorniu and his son Manuel, heirs of Mr. Jaume Codorniu, till today it has taken place a deep transformation of our catalan economy. Today, the vineyard devastation caused by the fil.loxera  in 1887 is already history. Today an important number of our firms producing cava export around the world.

 

The origins of Sant Sadurní go back to the old parish of Sant Sadurní de Subirats, documentary mentioned in 1080. At that time belonged to the University – Town Hall of Subirats . Its outstanding geographical location together with plain lands and plentiful of water accelerated its quickly development and prosperity and so also the process to be an independent municipality in 1764.
